Dunn, Pittman, Skinner & Cushman PLLC traces its beginnings to Raymond E. Dunn, Sr., a native of rural Pamlico County. A B-29 pilot in World War II, he returned to North Carolina after the war to earn an undergraduate degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a law degree from the UNC School of Law.

From these humble beginnings, Ray Sr. founded his firm in September of 1952, when he hung a shingle outside a one room office in downtown New Bern. He went on to practice law in eastern North Carolina for 50 years.

Ray Sr. built his practice upon a solid principle – that every individual is entitled to zealous representation under the law. As a practicing attorney, he believed his responsibility was to be an advocate who would work tirelessly to apply the rule of law and to protect, enforce, and defend the rights and responsibilities of individuals and businesses in our community. His unwavering principles continue to guide Dunn Pittman today.

Until his death in 2001, Ray Sr. along with his son, Ray Dunn Jr., and Pat Leigh Pittman worked with the firm’s strong, competent and committed staff to build the strong firm we have today. In 2005, Mary Skinner, an attorney and CPA who had practiced in the triangle area of the state for more than 20 years, joined the firm. Charles Cushman, an attorney who has deep family roots in the New Bern community, joined Dunn Pittman in 2007. The attorneys and staff of Dunn Pittman are quickly proving that the firm’s new generation is as strong as the original.

Together, our four attorneys complete the cornerstones of this firm and hold solidly to the principles that were founded in that one room office more than 60 years ago. Along with the staff of Dunn Pittman, they work tirelessly to continue the tradition of providing quality legal services to the individuals and businesses of eastern North Carolina.
